Avon 1876 Cape Cod Ruby Pedestal Mugs. Set of 2 on Original box. A discontinued vintage collectible item made of high-quality, ruby-red pressed glass.

"The 1876 Cape Cod Collection
These splendid mugs are reminiscent of early American pressed glass called "sandwich Glass." It featured lacy, intricate designs, fine background stippling and exquisite brilliance, which reflected the superb craftsmanship of its makers.

Many of the detailed designs of the ... glass were produced by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Works, founded on Cape Cod in 1825. Other companies in the region competed but the popularity of "Sandwich" pieces resulted in the name becoming a generic term or pressed glass.

Inspired by the lacy delicacy of these designs particularly the classic "Roman Rosette" pattern, Avon has created this unique collection. Not only does it recall the beauty of this quality glass, but its name commemorates both the spirit of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, which celebrated the 100th Anniversary o the Declaration of Independence, and the area where Sandwich glass originated. "
